We are living in the season of the feast of Rosh Hashanah and the Day of Atonement. Some of the most important feast of Israel took place during the months of September and October. It was in this season that Teshuvah took place, which was a 40 day period which began on the first of Elul and climaxed on the Day of Atonement. At this time the trumpet would sound announcing the New Year and the people understood during this season they were to look introspectively and draw close God. They would also greet one another with the phrase, "may God inscribe your name in the Book of Life". Beginning with Rosh Hashanah to the Day of Atonement there was a 10 day period known as the Days of Awe, which was a time for awakening and repentance. It was at the end of this season climaxing on the Day of Atonement that God would seal the fate of the people. There were four months between these feat and the Feast of Trumpets (a type of the rapture). This could be a very dry time in Israel as they looked forward the the rainy season which was to come for the harvest. This is very symbolic for us. Jesus said in the gospel of St. John 4:35 "Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest". We seem to be in a season of dryness which has brought lethargy and apathy to many and has allowed sin to creep in. During this season let us be reminded to wake up and repent. Let us rise up to be light in the darkness. Before the Rapture takes place the rain is going to come. So look up your redemption draws near. Hosea 10:12 declares; "Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. Likewise Zechariah 10:1 Says; "Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field." The Lord our God wants to send a mighty refreshing and outpouring upon his people. The Church needs to be aware, that, even though it is dark and gross darkness covers peoples' lives, the Lord will rise upon us and His glory will be seen upon us. Light shines brightest in darkness, so let your light shine. Awake thou that sleepest...and Christ shall give thee light. During this season let it move you to repentance and awakening. Are you on fire for Jesus or have you let the flame of His love and grace grow dim? It is time to stoke the fire and let it burn bright again. Thank God for His free gift, lets lay hold of it through the Lord Jesus Christ. |
